What appeals to you more – walking the ramp or posing for print ads? They both are very different from each other but I like print, it gains more points because these days the shoots are not simple, they are very creative, thematic and challenging.
Do you agree that models are used as a hanger? This holds true only if models choose to be used as hangers. In my case, I don’t think I am used as a mere hanger. Do you think that the Indian modelling industry has grown from past few years? The credit goes to whom? Fashion fraternity has really worked hard in bringing the industry to the position where it is now. Our designers have shown in Paris Fashion Week recently and have brought Indian fashion to international limelight. I think they are the major contributors to the immense growth that our industry has witnessed. Carrying the right look or the right attitude – Choose. I will go for both. It’s like you cannot survive, if you lack either of them. It is most important to have an attitude that sets you apart from any other good looking face. Your favourite designer…Internationally, I love Karl Lager feld, Marc Jacobs… there are too many. Among the Indian designers I like Gaurav Gupta, Rohit Bal, Tarun Tahiliani, Savio Jon…it’s so hard to name just one. Your take on foreign models getting preferences in the Indian fashion weeks? Ah…I would say it totally depends on the look of the season. If designers feel that foreign models will fit into their theme, then it’s totally their decision. Yeah…but I would like it if we get to see more Indian faces on ramp.
How do you cope with all the pressure and competition? I just do my work, focus on it rather than thinking about the competition. Tell us something, which most people don’t know about? I have a secret crush on Milind Soman! (well, don’t all girls do?) What next for you after modeling? Don’t know yet, still have not thought about it. But I’m sure that it will not be something boring for me.

Ja, this Bruno is more famous than that Bradoff Pittler Austrian Superstar!
Brüno (from here on without das umlautten – just Bruno) is a Üniversal picture – now stop that – is a Universal picture starring Sacha Baron Cohen, of Borat fame and, although funny in parts, suffers in comparison to the breakthrough Kazakhstan reporter’s search for love. I happened to be in Hollywood when Borat was released and the buzz around town for that movie was amazing and positive. It also caught everyone by surprise, both by the box office biz and the “go for it” satire that Cohen delivered. This gay fashionista’s story about wanting fame is, in some ways, more daring and at the same time, more obviously staged to create a contrived “honest” reaction from the victims of Bruno’s relentlessly inept attempts at celebrity status.
The story is a familiar quest for fame, the American dream sold around the world. In this case, Austria and Bruno, having Velcro-smashed his way out of the fashion world and his job as host of a funky fashion TV show. Not taking this blow to his “career” as a set back, this gay Austrian flies to Los Angeles with his assistant’s assistant to be the most famous Austrian ever, “more famous than Hitler”. Armed with a camera like Borat, Bruno attempts to become famous by acting, hosting a talk show, sponsoring charity events, brokering world peace and going straight. Of course, all attempts fail and he becomes accidentally famous in a shocking macho caged fight scene which makes the news and allows him the opportunity to sponsor a “We Are The World”-type benefit song.
Of course, the story is only worthwhile if it can drive the intended satire of celebrity pretentiousness and the religion of fame, the sexual hang-ups of middle America and the general willingness of most everyone to grasp their 15 minutes of fame, even if it means getting liposuction to their six-year old. Whereas this sandbagging of people to expose their bias and stereotyped attitudes was fresh the first time, it seems labored in this second film.
The R-rated comedy satire is rare in Hollywood, difficult to do and rarely reaches a broad audience. The audience in my screening was young and hip, and sparse. This is a movie you rent in the privacy of your own home, if you are middle of the road. There is a queasy feel to the humor, not just the usual gross-out of recent R-rated fare put out by the Apatow factory. There is no one to root for or an engaging storyline like the hit, The Hangover. This movie is all about “what the F**K did I just see?” and why.
